The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey – especially when it comes to seamanship. This month, the ladies of the Long Beach Women’s Sailing Association (LBWSA) meet at Shoreline Yacht Club for a practical session focused on rigging a Cal-20.
The Cal-20 is a widely recognized small, fiberglass keelboat, known for its simplicity and performance. As a one-design class vessel, it provides an excellent platform for both novice and seasoned sailors to hone their skills. Shoreline Yacht Club maintains a fleet of Cal-20’s, regularly utilizing them for summer series events, including the popular Taco Tuesday Races, as well as for instructional purposes during on-the-water lessons.
During this hands-on workshop, LBWSA members gained valuable experience in the step-by-step rigging of the Cal-20 – an essential skill for any sailor seeking competency and confidence aboard small keelboats. Events like these exemplify LBWSA’s mission to empower women sailors through education, community, and share experience.
Looking ahead, we invite all members to attend next month’s meeting on Tuesday, May 20, where guest speakers will present on the topic of coastal cruising in Southern California. This promises to be an informative and inspiring discussion for those curious about exploring our coastline under sail.
Please register in advance via the LBWSA Event Calendar. We look forward to seeing you there!
