The year 2025 is off to a fantastic start, bringing new opportunities to support and uplift women and underserved youth in the sailing community. If you missed our recent events, here’s a recap of the inspiring conversations and initiatives we explored.
January: The Magenta Project – Advancing Equity in Sailing
In January, we had the pleasure of welcoming Marie Rogers, who introduced us to The Magenta Project—an initiative dedicated to fostering inclusivity in the sailing industry. Through mentoring programs and community outreach, The Magenta Project works to inspire, upskill, and create a more equitable marine industry. By breaking down barriers, they ensure that women have greater access and opportunities in the sport and beyond.

February: Los Angeles Maritime Institute – Sailing for Youth Empowerment
In February, Donna from the Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) joined us to share the incredible work they’re doing to introduce youth to sailing. LAMI offers hands-on educational experiences aboard their fleet of historic vessels, including the three-masted schooner, American Pride, which serves as the official tall ship of the City of Long Beach. Their programs provide invaluable opportunities for young people to develop leadership, teamwork, and confidence through sailing.
For those looking to give back, LAMI offers various volunteering opportunities—whether assisting with ship maintenance, mentoring youth, or helping with community events. Learn more about how you can get involved at LAMI TopSail.
Stay tuned for updates on upcoming topics for our general meetings. We look forward to seeing you at next months meeting!
